In the early 1970s, when Dad had fully paid off the mortgage he was given custody of the largecollection of original old deeds and documents relating to Rose Cottage and ‘The Groves’ laterknown as ‘Inveresk’ which then became 167 Withens Lane, Wallasey. It was from thesedocuments, dating back almost 200 years, together with old maps, census returns, streetdirectories, old newspapers and photographs that I first compiled the history which I filed, in anorderly manner, in an A4 ring binder, and put on the book shelf. However, having completed,printed and bound a computerized version of our current home, 87 Penkett Road, I felt duty bound to do the same with Withens Lane.
