In 1930, anthropologist Nicholas Keene travels to Australia in order to study Aboriginal behaviour. On arrival in Perth, Keene and wife Stella catch a steamer north up the coast and then head inland deep into the outback. Instead of pulling them together the isolation exposes and accentuates their weaknesses.
