Becoming a member

Membership of the library service is free to all. There is no minimum age for joining at a branch library, but those under the age of 16 years will require a parent or guardian to be present. Anyone over the age of 11 can join online to access to eBook, eAudio and online resources.

Register online

You may join the library online by clicking on the button below after you have read and accepted the membership conditions. After registering online, if you wish to borrow books from a library you will need to collect your library card in person from your chosen Blackburn with Darwen library. Bring the UNREG number given after you have registered with you.

Conditions of membership

• You will need your library card to borrow items.
• All items are available for a three week loan.
• You may borrow up to fifteen books including spoken word CD's on your library card. These can be borrowed from any branch of Blackburn with Darwen Libraries.
• You can also download 6 eBooks and 6 eAudio books for free using your library card / UNREG number.
• Items may be renewed 8 times without being brought into a branch. Staff are happy to renew items over the telephone during opening hours, please have your library card number on hand. Items can also be renewed online. Items reserved by another borrower cannot be renewed.
• Items may be returned to any branch of the Blackburn with Darwen Libraries. A 24 hour bookdrop facility is available at Blackburn Central Library at the Northgate entrance.
• Library privileges may be suspended if you have overdues items and outstanding charges.
• Overdue notices are a courtesy reminder for your convenience.
• Reservations can be placed on items in stock, free of charge.
• An interlibrary loan service is available to obtain items from another library service. A small fee is charged for this service.
• You can place your own reservations/requests for most items through the online catalogue.
• All costs incurred by the Library due to items lost or damaged whilst in your care must be reimbursed.
• All reservations, interlibrary loans and lost library card charges are non-refundable.
• If you change your address or name please notify us immediately using the "Your Account" feature online.
• Please report lost cards to the library immediately. You will be held responsible for any items borrowed before the loss is reported.
• Membership details are confidential and will not be disclosed to other parties.
